The transgender community remains one of the most stigmatized sections of our society. Although we claim to live in contemporary India, misconceptions and prejudices against them continue to persist. As a result, they are often denied access to healthcare services, which are a fundamental right of every human being.
It is important to recognize that for many transgender persons, their foremost aspiration is to align their physical body with the gender they identify with. This requires hormone therapy and gender-affirming surgeries, which are prohibitively expensive in private hospitals.
To address this, in collaboration with AIIMS Nagpur, we established a Transgender Clinic at AIIMS, equipped with a dedicated team of medical professionals to provide comprehensive healthcare support to the community.
In addition, we have recently extended support to a transwoman who lost her leg in a train accident. Mission Vishwa Mamatwa Foundation has taken complete responsibility for her treatment until her artificial limb transplant is completed. Thereafter, we will also assist her in starting a business, enabling her to live an independent and dignified life.
