As is well known, this community has a natural and historic association with art forms such as dance and music. In recognition of this, we brought together talented transgender artists and established a dance group. The objective was to showcase their talent before the world while simultaneously creating a sustainable source of income for them.
The journey began with just seven dancers, who delivered a remarkable performance on the prestigious platform of the South Central Zone Cultural Centre, Ministry of Culture, Government of India, an effort that received high appreciation from the Ministry. Thereafter, there was no looking back. MUDRA went on to perform at the International Geeta Mahotsav, Kurukshetra, organized by the North Zone Cultural Centre, Ministry of Culture, Government of India, this time with 16 dancers. Subsequently, MUDRA graced several elite stages, including the Pu La Deshpande Academy, Mumbai, CCRT, Delhi, Khasdar Mahotsav, Nagpu r, and many more.
Thus, MUDRA, comprising 20 exceptionally skilled artists, emerged as the first and only transgender dance group in India. Today, these 20 transgender individuals have given up begging and embraced dance as their full-time profession and livelihood.
